CellAED® personal defibrillator
Globally, cardiac arrest kills between 7-9 million people each year with up to 80% happening at home.
Cardiac arrest happens suddenly without warning, the heart stops pumping blood around the body, and there’s only minutes to save them. Following the chain of survival is critical to increasing the chance of survival. A witness needs to:
- Recognise a sudden cardiac arrest – someone is unconscious, unresponsive, and not breathing or not breathing normally.
- Call emergency services
- Start CPR
- Apply a defibrillator.
For every minute CPR and defibrillation is delayed the persons chance of survival drop by 10%. Sadly, less than 10% survive because they don’t receive defibrillation in the first few critical minutes.
Most cardiac arrests happen at home, yet existing automated external defibrillators (AED) are expensive and unaffordable to families. Too often they’re not maintained and don’t work because the components have expired — the gel on the electrode pads have dried out or the battery died.
A key barrier to using public access AEDs, is they’re intimidating and complicated to use with separate components needing to be assembled prior to use. They’re often located in public buildings (locked after hours) and too far away from where they’re truly needed, in the home.
Saving lives from sudden cardiac arrest at home is now possible with CellAED®.
Before now AEDs were too expensive for personal ownership. CellAED® was created to make a smaller, lighter, ultraportable AED. It needed to be easy-to-use by laypeople with minimal training to be applied in seconds. It needed to be beautiful and small enough to fit with the décor of a home yet be highly visible as a life-saving medical device and easily accessible in those first few critical minutes following a cardiac arrest. It needed to be affordable so that just like every home and workplace has a smoke detector, every home and workplace could also have a defibrillator.
CellAED® is easy to use and turned on and applied in seconds through a patented three step process: Snap Peel Stick® which is clearly communicated through pictorial instructions on the device label itself which are always visible when not in use through a transparent front protective case.
The physical action of “Snap” turns on the device, which is fully automatic, with no further buttons to press to operate in most use cases (use on an infant <10kg requires one button to be pressed when prompted).
The usability is enhanced by voice instructions and audible tones guiding the user through every step of the CPR and defibrillation process. This simplicity makes it intuitive to operate by a panicked novice in a high-stress situation without needing to read complicated instructions or make therapeutic decisions.
CellAED meets the highest benchmarks for quality, safety, and efficacy. It’s mass produced to the medical device quality standards following ISO 13485 and current medical device registrations include CE certified, Australian ARTG listed, UKCA certified and MHRA listed, Taiwan GMP certified, and South African SAPHRA licensed. CellAED is currently available for sale in Australia, New Zealand, UK, Ireland, parts of Europe and South Africa.
