Smart Technology at SoFi Stadium

SoFi Stadium, the centrepiece of Hollywood Park, is a near 300-acre world-class sports and entertainment destination and the new home of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers.

It’s the NFL’s first indoor-outdoor stadium to be constructed and will host the Super Bowl LVI in February 2022, the College Football National Championship game in 2023, and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 2028 Olympic Games.

The stadium is the first major sporting venue in the U.S. to implement digital twin technology – setting a trend that could reshape the future of sporting venue construction and operation.

As SoFi Stadium’s exclusive digital twin provider, Willow worked with the organization to implement the WillowTwin™ and make SoFi Stadium the smartest stadium ever built.  

The concept of a digital twin was originally developed by NASA in the 1970s for space exploration and has since been applied in manufacturing and aviation. Whilst Digital Twins are a relatively recent phenomena for the built environment, they are having a substantial impact pre- and post-construction.

The twin will enable SoFi Stadium to have complete transparency in their building operations. Data that was once buried in proprietary systems and controlled by equipment manufacturers can now be made accessible in a single platform. By accessing this data, Willow enables SoFi Stadium management to solve problems before they occur and to identify opportunities to improve the experience for fans.
