Patient Specific 3D Printed Models
3D printed medical models are playing an increasingly important role in presurgical planning, medical device development, and training and education.
Surgeons are using patient-specific 3D printed anatomical models for pre-surgical planning to improve clinical outcomes. Printing accurate and realistic models from a specific patient scan—as well as biocompatible surgical guides that can be sterilized and used in the OR—can help align surgical teams, reduce complications, and decrease operation times. Patient understanding, consent and satisfaction have also been shown to improve with the use of 3D medical models.
3D printed anatomical models, used as part of educational platforms and training programs for undergraduate research assistants, also provide students with real-world experience and on-the-job training.
