IBM Designers work together to design a new culture of equity.

Systemic racism reaches deep into all aspects of our society, and impacts all of our futures. The IBM Racial Equity in Design initiative is committed to ensuring racial equity is instilled in the design culture inside and outside of IBM by driving change through our interactions, investments, and actions that impact behaviors, policies, and deep-seated assumptions.

This team of designers is impacting design culture from all angles of accessibility, visibility, and accountability. From working to increase the number of Black designers and Black IBMers in leadership roles; telling the story of the culture and exploring experiences that unite us as creatives and divide us by race across the design industry; to creating safe spaces and identifying avenues of connection throughout the company - the Racial Equity in Design initiative is at the forefront of cultural change, working across industry so that together, we take action to create and foster an equitable, sustainable future.

The work of the initiative has produced the It’s About Time podcast, a Call to Action for IBM Designers, the Field Guide for Managers and Leaders, and collaboration and co-leadership of the Texas State University – IBM Design “Black Design: Past, Present, and Future” virtual conference.
