Motion Design
Motion design is where graphic design and video collide.
It’s a ubiquitous art form hiding in plain sight. Motion design is everywhere: TV, movies, social media, apps, even digital billboards. Most people have some idea what a graphic designer does, or what a video editor does, but when people think “animation” they tend to think cartoons. Motion design has stayed under the radar – all while playing a key role in nearly every kind of visual media that moves.
And while motion design is a form of animation, it’s more about conveying information visually, whether that’s stats on a sports broadcast, opening title sequence on a TV series, what life is like in a futuristic Hollywood blockbuster, how to understand the latest news or how a company wants you to feel about their product. It’s even making inroads into the apps we touch every day, bringing life and personality to every interaction.
Motion designers are working on set on Marvel movies, at multinational agencies, on the design team at tech start-ups, in the control room for live events… and often just in their own home office. But they rarely work alone: they’re able to collaborate with colleagues of other creative disciplines around the world.
